Rising AV Performance

If you read my other post, I mentioned that I am using Rising Antivirus since last 2 months (almost). Previousy, I use Avira Antivir (Free) and would like to give Rising AV (free too) a try judgin from their features (AV+HIPS+Anti Trojan). However, recently the way my computer behave quite weird. Out of the blue the hard disk and CPU activity spike like no tomorrow till my Vista almost lock up. It happen many times (more than 10) so I suspect that my computer security already compromised.

A quick check at Rising AV Security Audit (as screenshot below), shows it got High Security with no virus infection. Run full scan exhibit no virus at all. I still not satisfy.

So, I redownload Avira Antivir again and update it. Run full scan and tadaaa… 13 viruses infected. Oh my God.

So, I have to say Sayonara for rising AV and welcome back Avira.

Picture speak thousand words.

Here we go, 1 mbps service from Izzi iBurst so called 4G technology. And the best part of it, I consider myself lucky to get this kind of speed this day. During peak hour, 56 kbps dial up to ISDN 128 kbps speed could be considered normal. Sigh.

Yep, you see it right. 100% signal strength. 46 days to go before my subscription end.

+++++++++++++++++++++++

One izzi guy call my number and asked me about my izzi performance and told me that second tower already up at Kelana Jaya. Pretty excited and I did speedtest (www.speedtest.net) and choose Singpore and Malaysia server… surprise suprise….

speedtest

not satisfied….restart computer and restart modem…
null

bah…still below 200 kbps (and this is local server in KL)….. 11 AM some more…sigh.

How about another try for singapore server (to reflect oversea content speed…well most of the websites and materials I require mostly from oversea base server)

tadaa…
speedtest3

what is this?????

Pay RM98 for 1 mbps and get this result? No wonder it take almost a minute to open this wordpress edit page. zzzzzzzzz

How to Save As PDF in Office 2007

Yeah, yeah, I hear you. There are a lot of free PDF writer out there. PrimoPDF, CutePDF to name a few. But, if you are using Microsoft Office 2007, Microsoft actually provide a free plug-in which you can save your office documents (Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc) from Save As menu. Pretty handy heh?

For example, I want to save one of my word file (in docx format) into PDF. What I need to do is click on the Office Orb (upper left) à Save As à PDF or XPS (as in the screenshot below).

Another advantage which might not exist in other freeware pdf writer is this one :

I dearly love ‘Create bookmark using : ‘ section because when I open my PDF file via Adobe Reader, there is a nice bookmark list as screenshot below :

—————————————————————————————————

Since I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 8 in my system, it is good to compare both product straight out of the box.

In term of bookmark and links (in pdf file) :

By using Office 2007 Save as PDF plug-in, all heading could be convert as PDF bookmarks and all links in words file are working, either within the PDF file itself or external link. This is usually not possible by using most free pdf virtual printer like cute PDF for example.

Office 2007 PDF plug-in output

Adobe Acrobat 9 (virtual printer) output

As expected, since Adobe Acrobat 8 doesn’t support Office 2007 (I believe Acrobat 9 does support), there is no bookmark list base on Ms Word 2007 heading.

In term of size,

  • Ms Word 2007 : 435 kB
  • PDF converted by Office 2007 plug-in : 540 kB
  • PDF converted by Adobe Acrobat 8 : 606 kB

In term of speed :

Office 2007 Save As PDF plug-in way faster than conventional method which Acrobat 8 use (virtual printer).

In term of quality (I do not adjust anything…default setting) :

Pic above : Output from Adobe Acrobat 8

Pic above : Output from Office Save as PDF plug-in

Note : Both screenshot is taken from Adobe Reader 9 with 100% zoom. No more no less.

—————————————————————————————————

So, where to download this plug-in?

If you are using Genuine Ms Office 2007, here is your LINK.

But if you are using ahem Office 2007, here is your direct link (without WGA checking) : LINK or MediaFire Mirror

—————————————————————————————————

In case of you want to see and check for your self those docx and pdf file, here are the links :

Source of documents :

So, should I use this instead of other alternative?

Depend. If you are using Microsoft Office 2007 there is no reason not to use this plug-in. It is way faster than conventional virtual printing method, the output quality is better in term of quality and features (bookmark and links), free and pretty small to download (600 kB in zip format). However, if your document is not produced by office 2007, you might need to use other solution, either free software such as cute PDF or premium software such as Adobe Acrobat. Or if you want to secure up or lock your PDF file, this plug-in simply can’t provide you that option.

As for myself, I use both. Adobe Acrobat 8 and this small handy plug-in. But one thing for sure, as long as I need to send any of my office 2007 files to my friends of boss in pdf format, this plug-in is a must :D

Acer 4530 64bit driver

Finally, 4 GB of RAMs is no longger an issue.

For those who are still trying to install Vista 64bit or Windows Server 2008 64 bit to fully utilize your 3 or 4 GBs of RAM, good news. All the required drivers now available.

However, straight from Acer driver DVD disc, graphic and motherboard chipset driver for 64bit OS is not included. Due to that very own reason, I upload both driver here.

Download Acer 4530 Graphics and Chipset driver here :

Yep, I realize, new version of 9100M custom INF has been release but due to some unknown reason, whenever i try those version (176.37 for example, my vista index down from 4.1 to 4.0). 175.61 is the driver I used to achieve 4.1 vista index.

However, if you wanna test and experiment it by yourself, feel free to check this link : 17x Series GeForce Driver

Step :

Download both drivers (graphic and chipset) from the link above.

Install chipset driver first and restart. Then install graphic driver. Put your Acer driver disc in your optical drive and install other driver (bluetooth, wireless lan, ethernet lan, sound, quickbutton etc)- (for vista) as usual.
